How route types affect connections
IEPL, relay, and direct routes describe different network topologies. The name alone does not determine speed. What matters is whether the entry quality, cross-border path, exit location, and congestion control fit the task at hand.
IEPL
IEPL
IEPL routes use relatively fixed cross-border paths to connect the entry and exit points, making the route generally more predictable. Their value is not a higher peak in one speed test, but fewer detours and less sudden variation during busy periods. For sustained transfers, online meetings, remote desktops, and longer streaming sessions, a stable path often matters more than a short-lived peak.
These routes generally cost more to provision and maintain than standard direct connections, making them better suited to continuity-sensitive tasks. Destination still matters: for Asian services, check Tokyo, Hong Kong, or Singapore first; for North American and European services, choose an IEPL exit in the corresponding region instead of following the route label alone.

RELAY
Relay routes
A relay route first connects to a nearby or higher-quality entry point, then forwards traffic through an intermediate node to the target exit. Its main purpose is to optimize the cross-border path so the local network does not carry the entire international leg directly. Because the entry and exit can be adjusted separately, relay routes offer a practical balance of coverage, cost, and stability.
A relay does not necessarily add noticeable delay. A well-chosen relay can avoid an unsuitable direct path, while a relay pointed away from the target region may create extra detours. Everyday browsing, AI tools, code repositories, and routine work are often good starting points for relay routes; switch to IEPL after observing real-world stability over time.

DIRECT
Direct routes
A direct route connects the current network to the target exit with fewer intermediate steps and a clearer structure, while making it easier to expand city coverage. When the path is suitable, direct connections can be simple and effective. If the local carrier’s international path to the destination is unstable, they are also more exposed to detours, congestion, and differences between networks.
Direct routes suit lightweight browsing, backup exits, checking region-specific content, and temporary tasks that are less sensitive to continuity. They usually have a simpler cost structure and work well for broad coverage. If pages open normally but sustained transfers are unstable, try a relay or IEPL route in the same region rather than immediately switching to a more distant country.
